The best part is that I am potentially making a difference in someone's future life by helping to develop new drugs and treatments

I recently completed my second trial in a year at Quotient's Nottingham facility and I have to say, it was like going on a break from home!

‘Quotient Pioneer’ here, telling you about my experiences taking part in Quotient Sciences’ clinical trials.

I may be a mature individual (old/ancient/antique as some people would call it) at 60 years old, but that doesn't mean I'm not up for trying new things - especially if it means potentially helping others in the process!

I was a little apprehensive at first, I mean, I was asking myself, would it be safe? Would there be side or long-term effects? Would I get bored and go stir crazy? Would I like the food? And would I even get on with the other volunteers? But… let me tell you, my worries were completely unfounded!

Prior to screening, I received a lot of information explaining the expectations and commitments from both volunteers and from Quotient. It explained what I could expect to happen and when, any possible side effects, risks, plus all relevant dates, and schedules including any future follow-up visits. This was followed up by an emailed, informative video presentation which I had to watch before my screening appointment.

On the screening visit, one of the medics went through all the details again, asking questions and discussing the trial to ensure I read the notes, watched the video and understood all aspects including my commitments. This for me, was helpful and put me at ease.

Quotient’s professional, friendly team looked after all the volunteers incredibly well. It has welcoming accommodation, storage for personal items, comfortable beds, and even tea/coffee making facilities, as well as entertainment options like Sky Sports and movies, X-box, table tennis and pool tables, and regular walks in the nearby country park for some exercise and fresh air (if possible!).
And the food? Well, let's just say it wasn’t budget airline standard - great quality, varied and the portions were good; the menu had plenty of choices.

The warm, personable Volunteer Liaison Officer even added some extra fun to the mix with quizzes and competitions and checked on all of us regularly to make sure we were doing okay. All the volunteers enjoyed the trial - the camaraderie was fantastic, we all felt the same. I've made friends on both recent trials resulting in WhatsApp groups we use for keeping in touch and arranging socials – we’ve met up for walks, a few beers and event visits.

Quotient pays their volunteers promptly, and let me tell you, not having to worry about groceries, utilities, or commuting to work for a few weeks was a welcome relief and worth an extra bonus on top.

But the best part is that I am potentially making a difference in someone's future life by helping to develop new drugs and treatments - maybe you can think of someone you know who has benefitted from new treatments?

So, if you're looking for a way to help others, have some fun, and make some additional income, I highly recommend giving Quotient Sciences’ clinical trials a try.

Just remember to pack your comfiest nightwear, laptop, earbuds, and some reading matter - you're in for a treat! And who knows, like me, maybe you'll make some great friends along the way!
